At 87 per cent recovery rate, over 90K defeat virus in Chennai

In a positive sign, four of the 15 zones -- Manali, Tondiarpet, Royapuram and Teynampet -- have less than 10 per cent active cases

According to the Greater Chennai Corporation data, as many as 92,128 persons have recovered from COVID-19 in the city, which is 87 per cent recovery rate as on Thursday. Meanwhile, more than 1.06 lakh cases were reported in the city.

On the other hand, only 11,720 persons are under treatment in the city, which is around 11 per cent.

In a positive sign, four of the 15 zones -- Manali, Tondiarpet, Royapuram and Teynampet -- have less than 10 per cent active cases. With only 5 active cases, Manali zone has the lowest active case rate and highest recovery rate at 94 per cent.

“Chennai is the only city where a huge number of testings are being done. Earlier, everyone blamed Chennai for the higher number of cases. Now, everyone tries to emulate our formula,” a Chennai Corporation official said.

At the same time, the official added that the city would take another few months to reach zero cases as testing more persons would result in positive cases.

As per the data, 2,227 persons had died till Wednesday due to the virus, which is 2.12 per cent mortality rate.
