The deceased A Srikanth of Mattan Kuppam was a friend of one Naga of the same locality. Last month, Naga was attacked by one Veerabhathran, a fruit seller, for which the latter was arrested. While Veerabhathran was recently released from the prison, Naga took his friends Srikanth and Ravi with him to attack Veerabhathran in the zero hours of Wednesday.

A clash broke out between the two groups on Bharathi Salai and in the melee, Veerabhathram allegedly hit Srikanth’s head with dumbbells and broke his legs. While all of them fled the spot, passers-by noticed Srikanth lying unconscious on the roadside rushed him to Government Royapettah Hospital where he died without responding to treatment.

Zam Bazaar police registered a case and detained Veerabhathran and his friend Venkatesan, a two-wheeler mechanic.
