Another tusker seen in Madhukkarai

Days after the Madhukkarai Maharaja elephant episode another tusker has been spotted in the same area.

The new entrant visited the military camp at Madhukkarai a few days ago. The public who got frightened on seeing the animal informed the forest department officials. They used crackers to drive the tusker into the forest. It once again entered residential areas and the people took the help of the department to drive it back into the forest. The department arranged for a night vigil with a team of 28 persons under warden Senthil Kumar to prevent the tusker’s entry.

The Madhukkarai Maharaj was captured with the help of tranquiliser shots and kumki elephants. It died after being impounded at the Topslip Varakaliyaru camp.

At Udumalaipet, there are reports that elephants are crossing the roads frequently these days, in areas arouind the Anamalai Tiger Sanctuary where cheethas, bisons and deer move around with with elephant herds.
