AC mechanic falls to death from 7th floor of IT firm

A 24-year-old AC mechanic, who was involved in repair works without any safety equipment, fell from the seventh floor of a software firm on Thoraipakkam-Pallavaram Radial Road and died, on Monday.

A 24-year-old AC mechanic, who was involved in repair works without any safety equipment, fell from the seventh floor of a software firm on Thoraipakkam-Pallavaram Radial Road and died, on Monday.

According to police, Prakash’s brother Ananth had got the contract to repair and install air conditioners at Chennai One firm near the toll plaza. Prakash and four others were involved in the work on Monday afternoon when the accident happened. After Prakash slipped and fell, the other employees rushed him to a nearby private hospital. But doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Thoraipakkam police have registered a case and are inquiring Ananth and the firm’s safety officer Charles. They said that Prakash’s wife Sankari alleged that apathy on the firm’s side led to her husband’s death.

Meanwhile, a 56-year-old man was found dead in his house in Kotturpuram on Monday night and police have sent his body to post-mortem examination. The deceased, Veerapathran, was working as a driver at the Srilankan Embassy and reached home around 10 pm on Monday. His neighbours reportedly found him lying unconscious a few minutes later and on information, the Kotturpuram police sent his body to Government Royapettah Hospital. As Veerapathran lived alone, the cause of his death could not be ascertained immediately.
