The accused have been identified as M Gowtham (28), S Praveenkumar (25), M Sarathkumar (26) and S Arunkumar (26) of Pulianthope; S Narendran (24) and M Sirpi (20) of Kosapet; and P Devendran (23) of Puzhal. On Monday, police had secured R Dinesh (21) and D Sathishkumar (20) of Pulianthope and remanded them.

Inspector Ravi, whose team arrested the accused, said that the deceased Kumaran had previous enmity with one of the accused, Gowtham, and had attacked him twice. Kumaran had also attacked Gowtham’s uncle Paramasivam. Gowtham then gathered friends to take revenge and hacked him to death on Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, special teams have been formed to trace the suspects in connection with the murder of history-sheeter in Arumbakkam on Monday. Two of them — Sahayaraj and ‘Pambu’ Ganesan — were believed to have been secured based on CCTV footage.
