52-yr-old held for molesting minor

A middle-aged man who allegedly tried to molest a four-year-old child was arrested after the minor’s mother filed a complaint at the All-Women Police Station in Anna Nagar.

The man, identified as John, a 52-year-old mason, was presented before a court which remanded him in custody. According to police, the victim, an LKG student, is the child of a couple in Anna Nagar. 

Around 6 pm on Saturday, when the child was playing outside their home, M John of Annai Sathya Nagar, took her to his home after convincing her that he would join her to play. There, he allegedly tried to molest the child. The child returned home in tears and explained to its mother what had happened. 

The mother immediately went to the All-Women Police Station in Anna Nagar and filed a complaint. During the investigation, the police found that the complaint that John tried to molest the child was prima facie true, said a statement from the city police. 

Following this, a case was registered under Protection of Children from Sexual OFfences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and John was arrested on Sunday. He was presented before the court, which remanded him in custody.
