50-yr-old held for murdering wife near Pallavaram

Police arrested a 50-year-old man who murdered his wife in a quarrel near Pallavaram on Monday.

The arrested was identified as Chinnayan, a fish vendor, of Ayothiamman Koil Street in Anagaputhur. Police said Chinnayan, who was addicted to alcohol, came home at around 10.30 pm on Monday and began to quarrel with Janaki (47). After he assaulted her, the couple’s son Vijay intervened. Chinnayan then took a fish cutting knife and attacked the duo and escaped. On hearing the cries, neighbours rushed the duo to the Chromepet GH from where Janaki was referred to the Rajiv Gandhi GH and Vijay to the Stanley MCH. On Tuesday Janaki died without responding to treatment.
