5 arrested for forcing women into sex work in Chennai

In one incident, Virugambakkam police had received a tip-off about a woman being locked up in an apartment in Saligramam and conducted a search there and rescued her.

CHENNAI: City Police arrested five persons, including three women, for allegedly forcing young and gullible women into commercial sex work and rescued them in two different incidents in Virugambakkam.

In one incident, Virugambakkam police had received a tip-off about a woman being locked up in an apartment in Saligramam and conducted a search there and rescued her. Two persons- V Karthikeyan (46) of Madurai and Benedict Nelson ( 53) of Tirunelveli were arrested.

In another incident, police secured another woman from an apartment in Thiruvengadasami street in Saligramam and arrested three women- Santhi (50), Devi (38) and Seethadevi (34).

All the accused were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. The rescued women were admitted to a government home.
