45-yr-old dies after slipping into well, nephew rescued

A 45-year-old man drowned in a well near Padappai while his nephew who jumped in to rescue him had to be rescued with the help of Fire and Rescue Services personnel on Sunday.

The deceased Gugan (45) of Salamangalam ran an eatery in the locality, said police. His nephew was identified as Sathish (18). The incident happened when Gugan visited his sister Athilakshmi’s house at Anna Nagar in Padappai. He went to the backyard of the house to take bath on Sunday morning but slipped and fell into the 60-ft deep well after developing a seizure. Sathish who saw this jumped in the well to rescue Gugan. However, since Sathish does not know swimming, he also collapsed. While Fire and Rescue Services personnel managed to rescue him, Gugan had succumbed by then.
