4 of family commit suicide over debts in Anakaputhur

In a shocking incident, four members of a family including two kids allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves in their house unable to pay debts.

The incident happened on Gopal Chetty Street in Anakaputhur at Shanthi Nagar. The police, who rushed to the spot, on information from neighbours and retrieved the bodies, suspect the family took this extreme step due to debts. The deceased have been identified as Sudalai Muthu alias Selvam (35), his wife Thulasi (27), their children Preethivarma (8) and Saranya (5). It has not been ascertained as to when the death took place, as the bodies have been found in highly decomposed state. The police said, Selvam and Preethivarma, were found hanging from a ceiling fan in one room. They hung themselves from twoends of a saree, while Thulasi and Saranya were found hanging in another room of the house. The family lived in a rented house and the children went to a nearby school. 

Police suspect the family died at least three days ago and the bodies were sent to Chrompet Government Hospital for post-mortem.  Initial inquires reveal that Selvam had worked as welder in the neighbourhood. The Shanthi Nagar police have registered a case.
