The Aminjikarai police on Wednesday arrested four persons on charges of murdering a reformed rowdy Deepak Raj (30) at Aminjikarai on April 4. Police arrested brothers A Jayaseelan (22) and A Gunaseelan (24), both residents of Maduravoyal, and their associates R Karthik (22) of Arumbakkam and K Wilson (22) of Anna Nagar. Police said old enmity between the accused and the deceased had been the motive of the murder.

Deepak Raj, a resident of Vanagaram, was hacked to death on April 4 when he was sleeping on the terrace of a corporation toilet on Anna Nagar third Avenue. Police said Deepak had come to visit his parents’ house at MMDA Colony. Noting Deepak Raj’s presence, both Karthik and Wilson passed on the information to the brothers and all four of them together hacked Deepak Raj when he was fast asleep on the terrace of a corporation toilet.

Deepak Raj, who was earlier involved in several cases including an attempt-to-murder case and had been booked twice on Goondas Act, later stopped indulging in criminal activities and was eking out a living by running an auto, police said. Police first picked up Jayaseelan and based on his confession arrested the remaining accused from Shenoy Nagar on Wednesday night.
