208.7mm till now, rainfall exceeds expectations

The actual rainfall in the State since June this year has exceeded the expected amount of this season.

Tamil Nadu received 208.7 mm of rainfall till August 25 as against the expected rainfall of 203.5 mm.

Though the city has not gotten any rain for a few days, the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam received a minimum of 3 cm rainfall on Monday.


The temperatures in the city increased to 35.6 degrees Celsius and 34.6 degrees Celsius in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam respectively on Monday, while the minimum temperatures were 27.5 degrees Celsius and 26.8 degrees Celsius.


Meanwhile, heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, including Tanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukottai, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram, in the next 48 hours. The sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy during forenoon and generally cloudy thereafter in Chennai. Light rain is likely to occur in some areas during evening hours, with maximum and minimum temperatures around 35 degrees and 27 degrees Celsius respectively. Weather experts said that next spell of rain in Chennai-Kancheepuram-Tiruvallur region is likely to be experienced from August 28.
