14-year-old girl run over by car in ECR

A 14-year-old Class 9 girl of a private school at Kovalam was killed and her friend, a Class 10 student was seriously injured when they were knocked down by a speeding car on ECR near Mahabalipuram on Monday morning.

Police said Sneha, daughter of Kalaiarasan, a fisherman from Devaneri Village near Mahabalipuram died on the spot and her friend Induja (15) has been admitted in serious condition at private hospital at Kelambakkam. 

Police said the car which was coming from Puducherry to Chennai hit the students when they crossed the road at Devaneri on ECR at 7.40 a.m on their way to the school. The girls hurriedly crossed the road to catch a bus. The speeding car hit both Sneha and Induja. Sneha fell back on to the windshield of the car and suffered serious head injuries. She died on the spot. Public rushed Induja to the hospital. Police said those who were in the car escaped immediately after the accident. However, police later arrested the car driver Ilango (30), a native of Puducherry, who is working at an Export company in Chennai. 

Local residents blocked traffic on ECR, demanding speed breakers and a bus stop at Devaneri.
