100 sovereigns looted from bizman’s house

Police said an unidentified group burgled 100 sovereigns ornaments, Rs 1 lakh and a laptop from a house in Sungavachatiram near Kancheepuram on Thursday.

The incident happened when Nirmal Saviour (42), a businessman from Shokandi village near Sungavachatiram, went to church with his family. When they returned home, the front door and all five lockers in the house were found to be broken open. A total of 100 sovereigns, Rs 1 lakh and a laptop were missing. Based on a complaint filed by Nirmal, the Sungavachatiram police started investigation.

Police said the burglars sprinkled chilli powder at the crime scene to confuse sniffer dogs.
