Full-service carrier Vistara on Monday entered into a codeshare agreement with Lufthansa.

In aviation parlance, a codeshare allows two airlines to sell seats on each others' flights to provide passengers with a wider choice of destinations.

Accordingly, Lufthansa will add its 'LH' designator code to nearly 18 Vistara-operated flights every day covering 10 Indian cities.

"Sales under the codeshare agreement progressively open today on all channels and major GDS systems for flights starting 16 December 2019," the airline said in a statement.

According to the statement, the two airlines already have an interline agreement, using which passengers are able to connect from Vistara-operated domestic flights in India to Lufthansa-operated flights to both its hubs in Frankfurt and Munich and beyond.

"The two airlines are planning to soon expand the scope of the agreement, enabling frequent fliers of both airlines earn miles or points when travelling on each other's networks and enjoy other benefits," the statement added.
