Coimbatore
Industry representatives said the city with over 10 lakh people is witnessing a steady population growth, triggered by the rise in the inflow of migrant labourers. Stating that the crowded city needs better roads and more bridges, water facilities and tech-based solutions, they urged for long term solutions under the project.
Raja M Shanmugam, President, Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA), said creating a Greenfield Satellite Township exclusively for the labour housing facilities would be one of the greatest expectations under Smart City Project. “We have already made a representation on this to the Centre,” he said. He said Tirupur achieved export turnover of Rs 25,000 cr and domestic turnover of Rs 12,000 cr last fiscal. The industries there aimed at achieving the Rs 1 lakh crore knitwear business target for 2020.
