“Despite the constant negative press covfefe,” read his midnight tweet, which he ended abruptly without finishing his thought. Interestingly, even Merriam Webster called it quits on trying to find what the word means and tweeted, “Wakes up. Checks Twitter. Uh... Looks up for... Regrets checking Twitter. Goes back to bed.” 

Although the word was probably a typo and he meant ‘coverage’, social media users were quick to jump in with memes and jokes. The tweet was deleted only six hours after it went online, by which time it had been retweeted over 127,000 times and ‘liked’ more than 162,000 times. 

He later responded with the tweet, “Who can figure out the true meaning of ‘covfefe’??? Enjoy!”
