PM Modi’s viral Darth Vader moment

While the nation has been busy trying to figure out the details of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the Indian Star Wars fans have been feeling ‘a great disturbance in the Force’ after the Prime Minister was spotted walking off stage to the iconic soundtrack of Darth Vader’s Imperial March after his recent speech at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in New Delhi.

The Imperial March is the theme song of Darth Vader, one of the most recognisable movie villains of all time. Unaware of the significance of the soundtrack, Modi was seen waving and smiling at the audience as he walked off stage to the music.

Whether the soundtrack was selected intentionally by the students of ICAI is not yet known. Twitter and Facebook was quick to notice the goof up and pointed out the irony in memes and troll messages, which are now going viral. Modi had earlier had a brush off with Star Wars in 2014 at Madison Square Garden where he had told a packed audience, “May the force be with you.”
