Chennai
There were high expectations from the film going by the success of its predecessor. The question is whether the team pulls of a movie making coup The movie opens with Samuthirakani, a former police constable Natesan, planning to flee to Ahmedabad.
The police, however, apprehend him. The police commissioner (Gautham Menon in a cameo), enquires with him about the disappearance of three men Maran (Bharath Seeni), Oli (Esakki Bharath) and Shiva (Vinod).
The story travels behind and gives us a sneak-peek into North Chennai, where people are deprived of basic education and amenities and how a few youngsters, fight social inequality to improve the lives of people around them.
Vijay Milton, in the first half hasn’t minced his words about our education, caste and political system. This makes for a riveting first half. The commercial aspects of the films, replete with various social messages have been pulled off well with stunning visuals and impressive performances. The music goes well with the narrative and sets a solid platform for the second half.
Though the film retains its momentum post interval, unnecessary digressions throw the plot astray. The actors shoulder the film with sincerity till the climax, which underwhelms the viewer with its amateurish execution.
The performances, music and narration are top-notch, but only till the climax. Samuthirakani without doubt has given a great performance6. While we think that it would the roles of veteran actors like Rekha and Rohini that comes across as a huge plus, Bharath, Subiksha, Esakki, Krisha, Rakshitha and Vinod have delivered brilliant performances.
Achu Rajamani has emoted through his music and has taken Vijay Milton’s narration to a different level. The hard-hitting dialogues about our system is laudable. The way the three lead characters come together has been handled neatly by Vijay Milton.
Intriguing twists and turns now and then makes the movie for an interesting watch. However, the violence in the climax and pre-climax leaves the audience wondering and the message that was to be conveyed goes for a toss. Overall, Goli Soda 2 could have had more fizz and taste to it.
