Going Viral: Short film about a sex worker with a plan packs a punch

Bollywood director Imtiaz Ali has tried to capture a rather fascinating tale about a female sex worker with a plan, through a five-minute short film.

migrator

Chennai

Titled India Tomorrow, the film revolves around a gripping conversation between a sex worker and her client, about stock markets. The man gets a phone call from someone in the middle, where he learns that the stock market has crashed and he has effectively lost all his money. However, to his surprise, the sex worker mumbles sound financial advice that catches his attention. When he realises that the sex worker, who charges on an hourly basis is far more educated than he is, the client acts patronising and suggests she could be an investment banker. The film ends with a faster version of the song Sadda Haq with real life footage of sex workers conveying the message that what an educated, self-confident woman does for a living and what she does or does not do with her body and brain is entirely up to her.
