Chennai Police go beyond call of duty

At a time when the city is reeling under the impact of torrential rains, the Chennai Police is going the extra mile to make our lives easier.

Photos of the men in uniform cleaning clogged drains with bare hands without waiting for civic officials are going viral on social media under the hashtag #Chennaipolice. Police officials also distributed food in rain affected areas like Mudhichur. Not just from Tamil Nadu, netizens from across the country heaped praise on the cops.

Actor Kamal Haasan was also quick to thank the men in khaki for going beyond the call of duty on Twitter. However, unlike the heroes in uniform, the government has been criticised for not learning lessons from the 2015 floods.

“The politicians may fail you.. but these men in khaki will always try to do their bit. Amazing dedication,” wrote one user. Another wrote, “While the government continues to be ill-prepared, the cops rise up to the occasion. Just like they did in 2015 during the floods.”
