Rajini’s Darbar collects Rs 60 crore on Day 1

The Rajinikanth starrer has put up an average performance at the box office on the first day of its release across the world. Here are the numbers.

Rajinikanth’s Darbar opened to huge expectations on Thursday and received positive to mixed reviews. The film has Superstar donning the khaki 27 years after Pandian. There were reports on social media that the film had collected a whopping Rs 100 crore on its opening day. However, reliable sources say that the film is far from reaching the figures. “The film has so far collected Rs 17 crore in Tamil Nadu followed by Karnataka with a box office collection of Rs 5.5 crore. However, the film has performed well in the overseas market and has collected Rs 23 crore,” said an office bearer from the Tamil Nadu Distributors’ Association. However, an official confirmation on the numbers is awaited. Darbar is expected to have a solid run in theatres till Dhanush’s Pattas hits the screens on January 16. Last year Rajini’s Petta opened to a collection of Rs 13 crore. Till date, Vijay’s 2018 release Sarkar tops the list with a collection of Rs 31.5 crore on the opening day across the state. Produced by Lyca and directed by AR Murugadoss, Darbar stars Rajinikanth in the role of an angry cop, who puts an end to drug mafia in Mumbai.
