Popular Kollywood actor Gautam Karthik of Kadal and Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuthu fame lost his phone to snatchers in Mylapore on Wednesday morning.

The actor, son of veteran actor Karthik, was cycling on TTK Road around 5.30 am when two men on a bike followed him and snatched his phone.

Based on a complaint, the Mylapore police have launched a hunt for the suspects with the help of CCTV footage.

An officer said that Gautam had kept the phone on the handlebar while using it to navigate which made it easy for the accused to snatch it away. The actor did not suffer any injuries in the incident, said the police.

The number of snatching incidents — which had reduced during the initial days of lockdown — are being increasingly reported across the city. This, however, is the first time a celebrity has fallen victim to it.
