CHENNAI: Lyca Kovai Kings began its Tamil Nadu Premier League 2022 ‘home’ leg with a comfortable five-wicket victory over Ruby Trichy Warriors in Coimbatore on Sunday. Kovai (4 points from 4 matches) recorded its second successive win while Trichy (2 points from 4 matches) suffered its third loss on the bounce. Opting to field, Kings bundled Warriors out for 135, thanks to a disciplined bowling performance. Pacer Abhishek Tanwar returned excellent figures of 3/19 off four overs while R Divakar (2/20) and skipper Shahrukh Khan (2/34) shared four wickets between them. Barring Murali Vijay (61 off 35 balls, 3 fours, 5 sixes), who surprisingly walked out to bat at No.4, none of the Trichy batters could make an impact. In the chase, Ganga Sridhar Raju (27), B Sai Sudharsan (27) and Shahrukh (24 not out) made 20+ contributions to guide Kovai home with three overs to spare.

BRIEF SCORES: Ruby Trichy Warriors 135 in 19.3 overs (Murali Vijay 61, Abhishek Tanwar 3/19, R Divakar 2/20, Shahrukh Khan 2/34) lost to Lyca Kovai Kings 138/5 in 17 overs (Ganga Sridhar Raju 27, B Sai Sudharsan 27, Shahrukh Khan 24*)
