TVK Puducherry meet HIGHLIGHTS: Vijay accuses Centre of sidelining Puducherry, signals possible alliance moves
Stressing emotional unity over political boundaries, Vijay said Tamil Nadu and Puducherry may be separate states on paper, but “we are all one family”.
TVK Chief Vijay addressed the crowd at Puducherry
CHENNAI: Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay on Tuesday accused the BJP-led Union government of repeatedly sidelining the Puducherry administration, even as he avoided criticising Chief Minister N Rangaswamy of the NDA alliance. Tuesday's meeting was Vijay's first public meet since the Karur rally stampede that claimed 41 lives.
Addressing the crowd at Uppalam harbour grounds, Vijay praised the Chief Minister for providing adequate police protection and said the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu should take note. His remarks come amid speculation that TVK may explore an alliance ahead of the Puducherry Assembly elections, with general secretary N Anand, who earlier contested on an AINRC ticket, playing a key role.
Vijay said Puducherry’s long-standing demands, including the call for statehood endorsed 16 times by the Assembly, remained unattended in New Delhi. He criticised the absence of industrial revival, the failure to fill a ministerial vacancy after a corruption removal, and the lack of basic civic facilities in a major tourist centre. Highlighting financial strain due to dependence on ad hoc Central grants, he called for statehood, industrial expansion, revival of ration shops and better support for Karaikal fishermen, asserting that he would “always stand by the people of Puducherry.”
- Aadhav said Vijay will become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 2026.
- He added that similarly, a TVK Chief Minister should be created in Puducherry.
- He urged supporters to start preparing plans for this outcome soon.
-Aadhav says Vijay’s campaign will cover the entire Puducherry, noting that no other party has attempted such a large-scale event.
- He said Vijay will similarly organise a massive campaign in Puducherry, engaging people across the Union Territory.
-- Vijay accused the BJP-led Union government of repeatedly sidelining the Puducherry administration, despite the NR Congress-BJP alliance running the UT.
-- He said Puducherry’s long-standing demands were being ignored like Tamil Nadu’s concerns.
-- The demand for statehood, endorsed 16 times by the Assembly, remained unattended in New Delhi.
-- He criticised the lack of industrial revival, noting that five defunct mills in Puducherry and Karaikal had not seen even a symbolic attempt at reopening.
-- He said there was “no vision for job creation” and no intent to attract even a single IT company.
-- He pointed to the prolonged delay in assigning a portfolio to a minister removed over corruption charges, calling it an insult to minority communities.
-- He said Puducherry lacked parking facilities and basic public sanitation despite being a major tourist centre.
-- He reiterated the demand for a Puducherry–Cuddalore railway link and cautioned people against the DMK’s assurances.
-- Highlighting financial strain, he said the Union Territory depends on ad hoc grants from the Centre as it is outside the Finance Commission framework.
-- He said most funds were diverted to routine expenditure, forcing borrowing even for essentials.
-- He called for statehood, industrial expansion and revival of ration shops.
-- He said livelihoods of Karaikal fishermen were being destroyed as boats were not returned even after release.
- Vijay said only a united government sees Tamil Nadu and Puducherry separately, but for the people, they are not different.
- He emphasised that both regions share a sense of unity and togetherness.
- He added that seeing one another naturally brings a feeling of affection.
- Adhaav Arjuna thanked the Puducherry police for their handling of security at the event.
- He said Tamil Nadu should learn from Puducherry’s approach to crowd and safety management.
- Arjuna urged CM Stalin to contest elections openly instead of relying on police support.
- He praised the Puducherry CM for the protection provided.
- He said such protection has never been given in Tamil Nadu.
- Speaking at the event, Vijay said the Puducherry government had shown no bias and had provided full security for meetings of all parties.
- He contrasted this with Tamil Nadu, saying it would be good if the DMK government learnt from Puducherry’s approach.
- Vijay expressed “heartfelt thanks to the CM sir” and praised the administration for its fairness.
- Volunteers rushed into the public meeting ground after breaking through the barricades, violating police regulations.
- The police had set up controlled entry points, but the crowd pushed past them to enter the venue.
- The incident prompted officers to tighten monitoring and reinforce the restrictions in place.

- Speaking at the TVK public meeting in Puducherry, N Anand said police had imposed 31 conditions on the event but wouldn't stop Vijay from meeting people.
- He asserted that no number of restrictions would deter the movement or its supporters.
- Anand declared that a TVK government would be formed in Puducherry in 2026 as well.
- He remarked that Puducherry had effectively “alerted” Tamil Nadu not to overlook MGR.
- The TVK leader praised Puducherry’s political legacy, asking whether such early support could ever be forgotten.
- Vijay reached the venue on time, and the event has begun without delay.
- TVK and the police have announced strict safety rules — banning cut-outs, banners and unauthorised structures; prohibiting supporters from chasing Vijay’s vehicle; and warning volunteers against climbing buildings, trees or vehicles, or standing near electric poles and transformers.
- Traffic and public safety measures have been intensified — 11 restrictions are in force in Uppalam to ensure smooth movement for ambulances and the public, and two nearby schools are shut on Tuesday as a precaution.
