TIRUCHY: AIADMK is obliged to honour the alliance agreement made during the Lok Sabha polls with DMDK and must allot Rajya Sabha seat for the party, said DMDK general secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters in Pudukkottai, Premalatha Vijayakanth pointed out that, during the Lok Sabha polls-2024, AIADMK promised the DMDK of allotting five LS seats and one RS seat and, “It is their (AIADMK) duty to keep up the promise and allot one RS seat to DMDK as words are more important in politics and the people will trust those who keep up the words,” she stressed.

Welcoming DMK’s allotment of RS seat to actor Kamal Haasan as per their poll pact, Premalatha said, DMDK had missed the RS seat chance twice in AIADMK alliance.

“One was allotted to PMK’s Anbumani Ramdoss and the other to TMC’s GK Vasan. As we were promised, we were waiting for it this time. As it is our turn, AIADMK has to allot us the RS seat,” Premalatha further said.

Asked about the possibility of switching alliances if the commitment is not honoured, she remarked, “We shall see. No one can predict tomorrow. Not everything can be revealed today.”

She added, “We are patient. Poruthaar Bhoomi Aazhvar.”

Meanwhile, Premalatha said that the alliance in the upcoming Assembly polls would be decided only at the January 9 conference scheduled at Cuddalore, and the party is on the path of revamping from the grassroots level.

The constituency in-charges would be appointed in all the 234 segments. The booth-level committees would also be established thereafter, she said.

She also lauded the verdict on the Anna University sexual assault case and said that the investigation was made under direct monitoring of the court. However, she prayed not to spare anyone involved in the case from getting a fitting punishment.

Supporting the comments of actor Kamal Haasan on Tamil language, Premalatha said that Tamil

She also backed Kamal’s stand on Tamil as mother of south languages and said DMDK has no second opinion on that

is the root for every language and DMDK has no second opinion on that, as we love Tamil, which has unique qualities.

In the meantime, Premalatha charged that the Chief Minister MK Stalin had ridiculed the Magalir Urimai Thogai by encouraging the celebration of cinema supporting artists for common women at his Kolathur constituency.

“Everyone knows what they could do with mere Rs 1,000,” she said.
