CHENNAI: PMK founder S Ramadoss has officially named his daughter Srigandhi Parasuraman as the new working president of the party (Ramadoss faction) in his bid to sideline son Anbumani Ramadoss.
After relegating son Anbumani from the president's post to the working president's post in April, Ramadoss has now handed over the position to his daughter. However, the rival camp claims his decisions aren't valid.
Ramadoss, who claims to be the president of PMK, announced Srigandhi's elevation during the general council meeting held in Dharmapuri under his leadership on Saturday.
Srigandhi is plunging into active politics with the announcement of the party founder. She is set to take part in party meetings and activities after her younger brother (Anbumani) parted ways.
"I created a new post (working president). But one person (Anbumani) declined it. So, I am giving it to my elder daughter, Srigandhi. She will ensure the growth of the party and protect me," Ramadoss announced in the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, Srigandhi said that those introduced to politics by Ramadoss are acting against him (in a veiled reference to Anbumani). "Our founder will defeat betrayals and turn victorious. Conspiracies will evaporate as dew drops under the Sun," she said.
Srigandhi informed the cadre that the present political situation was the reason why she took over the charge, as she remains close to Ramadoss. "I will work for him (Ramadoss) my entire life. I will remain as the frontline cadre of the party," she said.
During the meeting, Ramadoss introduced Tamil Kumaran, son of party honorary president GK Mani, as the new president of the youth wing. Anbumani, who was in Tirupur for a party event, declined to comment on his sister's elevation and said the party's internal affairs could not be discussed openly.
