Magalir Urimai Thogai: 3,200 camps to be set in Chennai from July 24

CHENNAI: Chennai Mayor R Priya on Thursday, said that the Greater Chennai Corporation will organise 3,200 camps for inviting applications to enroll into the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme.

Mayor R Priya made these announcements on the sidelines of an event in the city. The financial assistance scheme of Rs 1,000 will be provided with an aim to help women heads of the family on a monthly basis. She said that the backend work is going on by the Chennai Corporation and the government had given a set of criteria to select beneficiaries for the scheme on July 7.

"There are 1,415 ration shops in the city and the distribution of the financial assistance will be monitored through these shops, including the number of beneficiaries. To conduct the selection of the beneficiaries, one person for a population of 500 people will be appointed.

So far, there are 17,18,663 ration cards are registered and we will check for the eligibility of the women family heads, out of these registered ration cards. As many as 3,200 camps will be organised to invite the applications for the scheme. The camps will be started from July 24," said Priya.

Responding to the questions on the restricted criteria for the eligibility under the scheme, she said that the people in need would surely benefit from the scheme.
