Passenger, flight numbers dip at Chennai Airport in June after summer rush 

CHENNAI: The city airport has recorded a footfall of over 19 lakh and 12,958 flight operations in June. The footfall has dipped by 1,19,654 since May.

Most international travellers were from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. In the domestic leg, many flew to cities like Madurai, Coimbatore, Tiruchy, Thoothukudi, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Port Blair, and Bengaluru.

However, when compared with May, there was a noticeable decline in passenger traffic and flight operations. There were 491 fewer flights in June. Thanks to summer vacation, passenger count and flight services rose. Total domestic passengers in June were 14,20,283 and on international flights it was 5,17,194.

Similarly, out of the 12,958 flights operated during June, 9,953 were domestic flights and 3,005 were international.

The number of departing passengers in June was 9,27,003, while arriving passengers tallied at 10,11,191. As for flight operations, 6,476 departing flights and 6,482 arriving flights were recorded. Adding to this, the city airport handled an average of approximately 64,600 passengers and operated around 432 flights per day.

Airport officials said they expect the number of passengers and flights would increase again from September and October, as festival seasons and long weekends begin.
