CHENNAI: IIT Madras is poised to shape the next generation of global leaders in AI through its pioneering BTech programme in AI and Data Analytics.
The institute, which consistently tops the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), will admit its second batch of students for the 2025-26 academic year.
Offered through the prestigious Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI, the UG programme is designed to provide a strong foundation in AI fundamentals while fostering real-world application skills. With a strong emphasis on research and industry integration, students will benefit from cutting-edge internships and UG research opportunities.
According to an official release, the curriculum has been crafted to open diverse career avenues — from core AI research roles in global tech giants to application-driven positions in sectors like healthcare, manufacturing, and finance. “Aspiring candidates who clear JEE (Advanced) can opt for this specialised programme during the upcoming JoSAA counselling. A total of 50 students will be admitted under AI and Data Analytics course,” the release stated.
V Kamakoti, director of IIT-M, said: “AI and Data Analytics are rapidly evolving fields. This course addresses the growing demand with a curriculum aligned to both industry and research needs. Students will be well-positioned to tackle emerging challenges and build a prosperous future.”
Professor B Ravindran, head of the Wadhwani School, highlighted the transformative nature of AI, and added, “This programme not only imparts fundamental knowledge but also encourages self-driven exploration, crucial for those aiming for research careers.”
The course also offers extensive academic flexibility, allowing students to choose from a wide range of electives — from computer vision to time-series analysis — enabling them to chart personalised learning paths.
