Chennai school teacher detained for sexually harassing Class 9 student

CHENNAI: A 43-year-old teacher of a private school in Ashok Nagar was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a class 9 boy.

The boy’s parents came to know about the alleged incident after the student suddenly developed health complications. When his parents enquired, he alleged that Sudhakar, the Tamil teacher at the school, had sexually harassed him.

The student's parents stated that he was admitted to Government Royapettah Hospital for treatment due to an infection.

Following a complaint filed by the parents, the KK Nagar police initially registered a case and launched an investigation.

The case was later transferred to the Saidapet all-women police. After inquiry, Sudhakar was booked under three sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and was arrested.

Meanwhile, the school management announced that the teacher who is accused of sexually harassing the student has been dismissed from the institution.
