The customs were checking the passengers who arrived from Thailand on Thursday. The officers on suspicion intercepted a male passenger with the help of a sniffer dog. On checking the cartons he was carrying, they found 5 kg of hydroponic ganja worth Rs 5 crore and arrested him.
Two days ago, the customs arrested a man who smuggled 1 kg of hydroponic ganja from Thailand. During the investigation, they found another man was arriving in Chennai with hydroponic ganja.
Following that the officers were monitoring the passengers who arrived from Thailand closely. The customs remanded them in judicial custody and sent them to prison. The customs have registered a case and are investigating to nab the others linked to the smuggling racket.
