Kya re, setting ah? Vengai mavan othaila nikken. Dhil iruntha mothama vangale ,” is a dialogue from Rajinikanth-starrer Kaala , which went viral. But in this newly released trailer, it’s not Thalaivar saying it, but a dog! Video producer Gowtham Shravan Kumar based in Bengaluru decided to make a spoof of the trailer with his year-and-a-half-old Indi dog Chandramouli — the ‘shooting’ happened in Puducherry and the four-legged superstar standing like a gangster in the video has taken a special place in the hearts of animal lovers on the internet.
Chandramouli is actually a female, but is named so because of a character in a Kannada movie that Gowtham loves. “Also, when my wife and I discussed adopting the puppy, I initially didn’t know she was a female; I’d mentally decided to name her this, so it stuck,” he recalls. The duo shares an interest of going on road trips and Gowtham tells us how. “I got a crate fitted at the back of my bike and wanted to see if my dog would be comfortable riding with me. I started experimenting with short distances and when I knew she was fully alright, I began taking her on longer trips to Mysuru, Hampi and other parts of Karnataka.”
So how did he end up in Puducherry? “It was on yet another road trip that I brought Chandramouli here; the place is very pet-friendly so we even found a resort where she could stay with us. I’d taken her to the beach and we shot a lot of videos of her running around and playing with other mutts,” he explains.
When the Kaala trailer released, since one of the posters of the movie had a dog in it, it inspired Gowtham to redo the trailer with his dog in it. “I was sitting in office and had some time on my hands so I began editing the videos I’d taken and syncing it with the audio of the trailer,” he says. “There’s a white dog’s video, which I took from stock footage and tried to lip-sync it with Nana Paterkar’s portions!” he laughs.
The video turned out to be quite a hit but aims at doing more than just making viewers smile. In the end, a message saying ‘Adopt, don’t shop,’ appears on the screen. “I initially hadn’t thought of conveying any message through the video but I felt it was important to share with people that Indi and adopted dogs are as great as breeds. I would like more people to be aware of this while choosing a pet for their home,” he concludes.
