GCC to train Corporation school students in cricket and football

The Nungambakkam Corporation School Ground will serve as the venue for coaching, where the facilities including 2 matting wickets, 2 turf wickets, 2 astro turf wickets and floodlights will be available.

CHENNAI: Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development Udhayanidhi Stalin on Wednesday inaugurated cricket and football training for students in Chennai Corporation schools.

Under the CITTIS (City Investments to Innovate, Integrate and Sustain project), the civic body will train students for cricket and football.

The Chennai Corporation has tied up with Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin's Generation next academy to train Corporation school students at a total cost of Rs 19 lakh.

Students from Class 6 to 8 will be selected and will form a Chennai school cricket team with 30 students.

Similarly for football training, a team will be formed consisting of students from three Corporation schools. In the first phase, 50 students will be trained.

Training will be given twice a week for 80 days. Also football, clothes and shoes will be provided for the students.

Health Minister Ma Subramanian, Chennai Mayor R Priya, deputy mayor M Mahesh Kumar, Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi, and other senior officials were part of the event.
