GCC removed 40 encroachments on pavement at NSC Bose road

As per the Madras High Court order, the local body authorities carried out the eviction drive at NSC Bose road in Royapuram Zone (Zone 5). Already, they have removed at least 400 unlicensed shops that encroached on the pavement.

CHENNAI: At least 40 illegal encroachments were removed at NSC Bose road by the Greater Chennai Corporation on Sunday. The civic body authorities stated that strict action will be taken against those who violate the rules and encroach on pavements.

“The encroachment removal work was carried out on Sunday using a bobcat machine and two trucks. A total of 20 civic body employees, including assistant engineers at the Zonal level along with 30 policemen were deployed during the eviction drive. Of the 40 shops evicted, 10 were trolleys and 30 shops occupied the footpath, ” the press release stated.

As per the Madras High Court order, the local body authorities carried out the eviction drive at NSC Bose road in Royapuram Zone (Zone 5). Already, they have removed at least 400 unlicensed shops that encroached on the pavement.

Also, other alternative arrangements have been provided for the occupiers on behalf of the Chennai Corporation. In addition, the Chennai Corporation said that if people violate the rules and encroach on the footpaths in the city, strict action will be taken against them.

“The GCC has formed a committee to execute the permanent and temporary encroachments on the footpaths in the areas under the Chennai Corporation. The team along with police will be removing the encroachments every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the respective Zones, ” further noted.
