CHENNAI: There is no solution yet for the garbage issue along the railroad at Pallavaram railway station on the side of GST road with both railway officials and corporation authorities blaming each other.

Some portions in this area were the Southern Railway property where a few house quarters and offices were constructed in and around the road.

Taking advantage of it, many hoteliers and fruit vendors nearby the railway station were dumping their waste indiscriminately, which poses danger to the commuters, especially at night.

When civic officials at Pallavaram were contacted, they blamed that it was the duty of the rail- way officials to look into the issue.

However, in contrast to that, staff from Pallavaram Railway station said that even though the road belongs to their department, the garbage on the

roads and lanes have to be cleared by the local civic wing.

“Our duty is to keep clean and passenger-friendly only inside the railway stations and we are doing it regularly”, senior staff from Pallavaram railway station said. As per the railway official’s estimation, around one lakh from Pallavaram and its neighboring areas including Pammal, Anankaputhur, and Kundrathur besides ‘Zamin’ Pallavaram.

“Usually I come by around 5 pm from my office to Pallavaram station through suburban train and go my two-wheeler along the railroad and there will not be any problem”, said S Padma, work- ing in a private company near ‘Madras High Court area’.

“However, the issue arises, when I arrive late evening. Stray dogs’ men- ace is a big issue. It will chase the bikers”, she claimed. “Even there will not be any street lights,” she said.

The commuter also requested that though she has the option to go through station street (another diversion), by avoiding the “illfated”, if I take

the station road route I have to travel more than two kilometers to cross the GST road”.
