CHENNAI: Kalki Krishnamurthy’s Ponniyin Selvan has a cult following and is considered one of the greatest historical fiction. Over the years, the novel has created a buzz among readers of all generations. While reading the book, many would have wondered how those places the protagonist Vandhiyadhevan travelled would look like today. To give the audience an idea about the present look of the places, Kalki Online has come up with a travel documentary titled Paraak! Paraak! Kalki’s Ponniyin Selvan — The Ultimate Historic Journey.

A source from the Kalki Group tells DT Next, “The story unfolds with the journey of Vandhiyadhevan from Veeranam Lake. He has travelled to places like Kodiyakarai, Nagapattinam, Kattumannarkoil, Thirukoilur, Thirupurambiyam, Mamallapuram and so on. Any fan of the novel would want to know more about those places and how they looked today. That’s the reason we have come up with the 16-episode travel documentary. The first part will be streamed on September 24 on the Kalki Online YouTube channel at 8 pm and the rest of the episodes will be released after that.”

The documentary is scripted and anchored by historical fiction writer Kaalachakram Narasimmaa.

“The documentary production team has travelled the same route taken by Vandhiyadhevan and has narrated the historical events in the documentary. The travelogue will help people understand more about the history and heritage of the places mentioned in the book,” the source added.
