CHENNAI: Police are searching for masked men who barged into a house in Acharapakkam and robbed the valuables after threatening the family at knifepoint on Friday.

Police said the house owner Hariharan of Achurapakkam has been working in the Tangedco. In the wee hours of Friday, while Hariharan was sleeping in the house with his wife and daughter, they heard a strange noise like someone trying to break the main door.

The family, then, tried to alert the local police but before that, a seven-member gang with black maks on their faces, barged into the house and kept knives in the throat of all three of them and snatched the mobile phones.

Later, the gang tied them together and threatened to kill them if they shout for help.

Police said the gang looted 15 sovereign gold ornaments, 2 kg silver items and Rs 80,000 from the house and escaped. Later, after a few minutes, Hariharan managed to free himself and took the mobile phone and informed the police station.

The Acharapakkam police who rushed to the spot registered a case and are trying to identify the gang. Hariharan told the police that the gang might be from Northern states since the Tamil slang was not proper.
