Migrant worker killed in hit and run accident on ECR

Police investigation revealed that the victim works as a casual labourer at a private firm in Palavakkam. On Sunday night, he consumed alcohol and fell on the roadside near MGR Salai in Palavakkam.

CHENNAI: A 32-year-old migrant labourer was allegedly run over and killed by a speeding car on Sunday night along East Coast Road (ECR) near Palavakkam. The deceased has been identified as P Sonu Yadav (32), from Jamshedpur in Jharkhand.

Police investigation revealed that the victim works as a casual labourer at a private firm in Palavakkam. On Sunday night, he consumed alcohol and fell on the roadside near MGR Salai in Palavakkam.

Around 11 pm, a speeding car had run over Sonu. The driver did not notice that a man was sleeping on the road and the tyres ran over the victim’s chest. Police have secured CCTV footage from the neighbourhood, which confirmed the hit and run.

Passerby moved the injured man to a hospital nearby where he was declared brought dead. Based on the information, Adyar Traffic Investigation wing registered a case under Sections pertaining to rash driving and causing death due to negligence. The police are yet to arrest the car driver. Yadav’s body was sent to the Royapettah Government Hospital for post mortem examination.
