TIRUVALLUR: A 23-year-old man and his friend who helped in allegedly murdering his 30-year-old concubine were arrested by the Tiruvallur police on Thursday.

The accused were identified as Jothishwaran and Sivaprakash.

The victim, Amudha, wife of Babu, a private bus driver, was a resident of Erumai Vetti Palayam in Cholavaram. The couple have a son and a daughter. A year ago, Amudha met Jothishwaran and fell into an illicit relationship with him.

Despite her husband warning her against it, Amudha continued to spend time with the accused and eventually with the help of Jothishwaran's friend Sivaprakash, the duo left their families and moved in together into a house at Kambar Street in Periyakuppam.

On August 28, the neighbours around Kambar Street complained of a foul smell emanating from the accused's house and alerted the police. The Tiruvallur police arrived at the scene and knocked the door down and found the decomposed body of Amudha. "On further investigation it came to light that the duo had gotten into an argument and when Amudha refused to listen to him, Jothishwaran had hit her several times and killed her," police said.

The accused was already married and had a child before he met the victim. On knowing this, Amudha believed to have confronted Jothiwaran who killed her and left her body inside the house before fleeing the scene and after locking the house. The Tiruvallur police registered a case and arrested Jothishwaran and his friend Sivaprakash in connection with this. The accused have been remanded in judicial custody.
