Student injured after falling from moving bus in Maduranthagam

The commuters said that if chosen to leave the bus, they should wait for the next bus for another 30 minutes.

CHENNAI: A Class 9 boy was injured after falling from a moving bus in Maduranthagam on Tuesday morning.

Nivendan (13) of Sothupakkam in Maduranthagam is a student of a private school in Acharapakkam. On Tuesday morning, Nivendan was travelling to school on the government bus to Achurapakkam. Police said the bus was overcrowded and more than 10 school students were forced to travel on the footboard. The commuters said that if chosen to leave the bus, they should wait for the next bus for another 30 minutes. When the bus was on the way to Achurapakkam, Nivendan who was travelling on the steps lost his grip and fell on the road. Soon, other students shouted for help and the driver stopped the bus immediately.

Police said the boy escaped with minor injuries and he was taken to a private hospital in Melmaruvathur. The Melmaruvathur police have registered a case and further inquiry is on.

The local people who gathered on the spot demanded that more buses should be operated on the Acharapakkam route during the peak hours to avoid these accidents.
