Live tracking law enforcement
In an attempt to reduce confrontation between its personnel and motorists, the Chennai traffic police have procured 201 body cameras.

It can record video with audio and also take photos
- Additional features: CMOS sensor, 120-degree lens, two-inch display, in-built infrared illuminators for night vision
- It also comes with embedded software that will enable pre/post-recording option along with the audio.
- Date, time and location of videos and photos taken by the body camera will be automatically saved to the centralised database as it is GPS enabled.
- If required, higher officials and control room can stream live video from each camera.
- Traffic enforcement officers have to wear the cameras and keep it on during their eight-hour duty.
- Number of enforcing officers (including traffic sub-inspectors) in the city 160
- When the cameras are being charged in docking stations, the captured video will automatically be saved to the centralised database
Old body cams
- Six body-worn cameras were given to city traffic police in February 2018 on a trial basis. Based on its success, the Greater Chennai Police have decided to issue the cameras to all traffic enforcement officers
- The old cameras were not internet-enabled and could not livestream
- Trial cameras lacked many features that the new ones have
