Vellore district has a number of popular spots including Palar Anaicut dam, Amirthi forest, Ratnagiri Temple, Delhi Gate, Mordhana Dam, Vellore Fort, Jalagamparai waterfalls and Kavalur. The Vellore Central Jail, established in 1867, is one of the historical important locations in the state in which has housed number of leaders including former president R Venkatraman, former Chief Ministers CN Annadurai, Kamaraj and activist Vinoba Bhave. The district has 3 reserved SC constituencies as the population of SC and ST in the district stands 23.70 per cent of total population.

Runner-up: K L Elavazagan (PMK)
Margin: 19,253 votes

Arcot Veerasamy was a twotime consecutive MLA of the constituency in 1967 and 1971. VIT Chancellor G Viswanathan was an MLA in 1991 when he was in ADK. Winning parties: AIADMK (2011), PMK (2006), ADMK (2001), DMK (1996), ADK (1991), DMK (1989), ADK (1984).

With the traditional voters for DMK and Congress, the constituency has seen same MLAs repeatedly. C Gnasekaran of INC has won 4 times (1991, 1996, 2001 and 2006) and V M Devaraj of DMK has won three times consecutively (1980, 1984 and 1989) and DMK’s MP Sarathy won twice in 1967 and 1971. Winning parties: AIADMK (2011), INC (2006), TMC (2001), TMC (1996), INC (1991) and DMK (1989 and 1984).


44. Anaikattu

Polling percentage: 78.13%
Winner: Kalaiarasu M (PMK)
Runner-up: Velu V B (DMDK)
Margin: 27,903 votes

VIT Chancellor  G Viswanathan was an MLA of this constituency in 1980. An AIADMK fort as it had won six times out of nine elections. Winning parties: PMK (2011), AIADMK (2006), ADMK (2001), DMK (1996), ADK (1991), DMK (1989) and ADK (1984).


45. Kilvaithinankuppam (SC)

Votes Polled: 1,40,848
Polling percentage: 80.08%
Winner: Thamizharasan C K (AIADMK)
Runner-up: Seetharaman K (DMK)
Margin: 9,760  votes

A newly formed constituency after delimitation. RPI party’s leader C K Thamizharasan contested with AIADMK symbol and won the contest against DMK’s Seetharaman. Winning Party: AIADMK (2011).


46. Gudiyattam (SC)

Votes Polled: 1,61,833
Polling percentage: 77.08%
Winner: K Lingamuthu (CPI)
Runner-up: K Rajamarthandan (DMK)
Margin: 5,842 votes

K Kamaraj, the former Chief Minister was an MLA of this constituency in 1954. V K Gothandaraman of CPM was a three-time MLA and K R Sundaram of CPM a two-time MLA from here. Communist stronghold. Winning parties: CPI (2011), CPM (2006), ADMK (2001), DMK (1996), INC (1991), CPM (1989), INC (1984), CPM (1980) and CPM (1977).
