Police identified the driver as Ramesh, a resident of Ramana Nagar, Perambur. A police team while conducting vehicle checks near Puzhal bus stand tried to stop a speeding car. The driver did not stop the vehicle and managed to drive past the police.
The police passed on the information to another team that was conducting vehicle checks near Retteri. Sub Inspectors Isakki Muthu and Rajamangalam were waiting to intercept the vehicle.
However, the car came straight at them and knocked them down. The driver later rammed into a two-wheeler near Kolathur, injuring Rangasamy and his son Rajendran. Members of public stopped the car and were able to catch the driver.
