The damage caused by the recent floods to consumer electronics, durables and vehicles owned by people was huge. Water entered several factories and other units of production causing damage to the tune of lakhs of rupees, said S Ramadoss on Tuesday.

But the aid offered by the Centre and the State was less than sufficient. Since it was not possible for the governments to help people completely overcome the loss of property, the public sector undertakings and corporates should come forward to help people tide over their losses, he added. NLC which operated from Cuddalore district, hit very badly by the rain earned a profit about Rs 1700 crore annually. They should donate half of their profit towards relief and rehabilitation, he said.
