Gong is an instrument we use in sound therapy. We use different instruments in sound therapy, namely singing bowls and gong. There are only a few trained professionals in this field. I trained under a lot of masters. The vibrations and frequency of the instruments have various effects on people’s mental and physical health. I have been doing this for five years. I run an IT solutions company. I was a complete techie before I was introduced to energy healing modalities and sound therapy in particular. That’s when I realised it was my passion.
When we offer sound therapy to others, you also go through the experience. Earlier, I used to have psycho-somatic issues like stress and now I’m able to manage it better. It helped me a lot. I was a strong advocate of in-person therapy. In person, the person not only hears the sound but also the vibrations through their body. They are more in touch. But now what has happened is that lockdown is the new normal and I had a mental barrier that this might not work. But with more sessions, I have broken through it. People actually feel as good and feel the vibrations in the body. We recently had a session with people from all over the globe, and they said that they could feel the vibrations. In energy work, there is a concept of distance healing and it works very well. I have been conducting group sessions on Zoom.
In fact, a lot of gong masters have started gonging together so that we can all feel the energy from co-players as well. If a person has any physical pain, I would prefer a personal session where I can place the bowls on their body. But for mental issues, online session works well. I am running a lot of sessions now for anxiety because we all have uncertainties about to future. I have designed sessions specifically for this, following the protocols in sound therapy. I conduct one-on-one sessions for such people. A lot of people also have sleeplessness and skewed sleep patterns. The anxiety sessions also help alleviate these issues.
