As an artiste, it’s essential to keep evolving: Pradeep Kumar

“I was overwhelmed. It is a great feeling to have someone sing your song and listen to their interpretation of it. Now, imagine thousands of people singing together. These experiences are really special to me. The best part is I have these special moments during all of my shows,” Pradeep Kumar says.

CHENNAI: The stage is lit in shades of red, white and purple. He strums his guitar as he sings, ‘Naan ennai uyirrthen pirivil, pirivil’. He stops and looks at the crowd in anticipation. The entire auditorium echoes the beautiful song in unison, ‘Maaya nathi indru maarbil vazhiyuthe. Thooya naraiyilum kadhal malaruthe…’.

“I was overwhelmed. It is a great feeling to have someone sing your song and listen to their interpretation of it. Now, imagine thousands of people singing together. These experiences are really special to me. The best part is I have these special moments during all of my shows,” Pradeep Kumar says. Gearing up for another show ‘Rhythm’ in the city on October 2, singer Pradeep Kumar talks to DT Next about his fans, indie music, the concert and lots more.

We have heard people say ‘Pradeep Kumar is an emotion’. But who is Pradeep Kumar to himself? “Pradeep Kumar only (laughs). As an artiste, I think it is essential to keep evolving; I believe that’s what I’m doing. If people are able to resonate with my music; I’m glad,” he says.

He says he owes the love and appreciation he has received to the people around him who taught him lessons from their own experiences. “I’ve always been grateful to the people who have influenced and inspired me to become the person and musician I am today. But of course, it’s also about being at the right place at the right time,” he remarks.

Talking about how the scene of indie music has changed in the city he says that through social media, indie music has grown massively. “Indie musicians have credibility today. Many of whom are performing in the cinema space,” he adds. Will he be performing any of his indie songs at the concert? “Yes, I’ll perform songs from Kulam and my movie numbers. I’m very excited to perform with the band and connect with the audience,” he smiles.

The event is at Phoenix Marketcity, Velachery on October 2.
