Talking to DT Next, Ranjith said, “Probably Sinamkol is the first film, which glorifies Eelam and has been certified with a ‘U’ by CBFC. Such films usually come out with several cuts and mutes. However, I am glad that Sinamkol is accepted by the censor board, that gives the first verdict.” Another highlight of the film is that Sinhalese technicians have also worked in the film, which is a first of its kind. “Though the movie is about post-war situation, most of the technicians are Sinhalese. We have worked with a lot of unity and oneness for this film,” Ranjith concluded.

While there is a biopic of Velupillai Prabhakaran, the late LTTE leader and another film titled Ottrai Panai Maram based on the struggles faced by Tamils in Sri Lanka, Ranjith told us that his film will speak about the change that Jaffna has seen in the last decade. “The story is narrated from the protagonist’s perspective, who is released from the prison after over six years. He comes in search of his family but is heartbroken by the situation. His house is taken over by the Sri Lankan Army. People from his land are deprived of basic amenities and are left with no place to go. The second half of the story deals with how the hero is being charged with criminal activities. Moreover, he becomes a victim of slow poison, which is a prevalent form of death among prisoners and he dies,” he elaborated. Ranjith said that he has also sent the film for National awardnomination.
