A weeping photo of Pankaja Munde, sitting MLA and a BJP candidate in the Maharashtra Assembly election has gone viral on social media. It was claimed that she wept over losing the election. Let us look at the true backdrop of the picture.
Gopinath Munde's daughter Pankaja Munde contested opposite to her cousin Dhananjay Munde in Parli constituency in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. Following the election results on Thursday, a photo of the defeated Pankaja, depicting her ‘heartbroken’ went viral over the social media.
Various websites and even some news outlets have published and shared this viral photo stating that Pankaja cried because of her defeat in the election.
The caption of the viral photo read, "Maharashtra's Women & Child Development Minister Pankaja Munde was in tears after she lost by 22,000 votes from Parli constituency to his cousin and NCP's Dhananjay Panditrao Munde. Both Amit Shah and Narendra Modi had campaigned for her.”
However, on checking the true source of the photo it was found that the viral photo of Pankaja crying was actually taken on October 20th. The photo was taken much before the Maharashtra election results. The photo has been snipped from an interview of her with a local television channel. Therefore, it is certain that Pankaja Munde did not cry for the election results.
