According to a Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) statement, Metro Rail services resumed in a graded manner from September 7. “A total of 3,60,193 passengers travelled in the Metro trains between September 7 and September 30. On Wednesday alone, a total of 22,065 passengers used the trains to commute,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, 13,044 passengers utilised the recently-launched QR code ticketing system. Also, 70,009 passengers used the Travel Card Ticketing System. It may be noted that the CMRL offers a 20 per cent discount on QR Code ticketing -- namely Single Journey QR Ticket, Return Journey QR Ticket, Group QR Ticket and QR Trip passes. Apart from this, a 10 per cent discount is already available for passengers using Travel Cards.
“All the entrance gates at all Metro Stations have been opened for public use considering the convenience. Also, all the facilities inside the stations are being opened,” the press release added.
Meanwhile, the CMRL has requested passengers to cooperate with security, ticketing and other staff for a safe and smooth journey in its effort to prevent the spread of COVID by social distancing.
